Do you look in the mirror and wish you had a more youthful appearance? An ideal candidate for a facelift has a desire to have a younger appearance. A person considering a facelift should seek an initial consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in performing the facelift procedure. During the initial consultation the plastic surgeon will advise the patient as to whether or not they are an ideal candidate for the facelift procedure. Here are some general requirements to be considered for a facelift procedure.

Facial Characteristics

An ideal facelift candidate is seeking to tighten the skin and remove deep lines around their nose, creases of their mouth, and remove loose skin from the jaw line and fat and folds from the neck area. In order to have procedure the facelift patient should have good skin elasticity. This is very important since the facelift procedure will stretch the skin to remove the unwanted wrinkles. For optimal results, it is also important for the patient to have good bone structure. The plastic surgeon may suggest facial implants if the bone structure is not the desired appearance.

Health Requirements

To be considered for a facelift procedure a patient must be in good physical health. The plastic surgeon will assess whether the patient is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. During the initial consultation it is important to advise the plastic surgeon of any pre-existing conditions that might complicate the procedure or healing process.

Realistic Expectations

A facelift patient should have realistic expectations of the procedure. It is important that the patient have an understanding of what a facelift can achieve as well as the limitations. This should be discussed with the plastic surgeon during the initial consultation. In addition to understanding the types of results from the procedure the patient should also understand and consider the risks involved with a facelift procedure.
