Because of the Illinois shelter-at-home, it has been at least 3 weeks since you have been able to come in for a medical-grade exfoliation. We miss our patients and always want to help, even if we can’t see you in person. Although exfoliation by a skilled clinician is the gold standard, there are products available for at-home usage that we would like to share with you. They can help to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant. With all the stress we have been through, who wouldn’t like to restore the glow!
Let’s talk about exfoliation for a moment. Exfoliation is a natural process in which your skin continuously sheds its protective outer layer. You can’t see it, but it’s happening all the time. This natural process slows down as we age, and as we experience stress, sun, and toxins in the environment. You may notice textural changes, a dull complexion, and prominent pores as a result of slower exfoliation of the skin.
With medical-grade exfoliation a clinician uses physical tools or chemicals to mimic the exfoliation process of your skin. This is crucial in maintaining fresh, glowing skin. Regular exfoliation also allows for optimal absorption of topical products.
In an optimal skin care regimen, a medical grade exfoliation should be performed at minimum once monthly; most thorough exfoliations last about 21 days.
Due to the current state of the country, in-office, medical grade exfoliations are not available. We would like to share with you some options for safe at-home exfoliation. Please note that SPF is especially important after exfoliating. Also, it is important not to over-do it. Overly aggressive exfoliation is not helpful to your skin!
