Neck Lift Options for Men Who Want to Improve the Tone and Definition of the Neck
For some patients the main issue may be excess fat in the neck. This excess fat may be mostly under the chin or it may extend to the sides of the neck, which causes a lack of definition beneath the jaw border. A patient with his situation may benefit from laser lipoplasty of the neck. The nice thing about this procedure is that it produces a degree of tightening of the skin and supporting neck structures. We utilize the Slimlipo technology for laser lipoplasty and have found it to be very helpful for patients with excess neck fat. The isolated neck lift is accomplished through an incision in back of the ear that extends a bit around the front of the earlobe and sometimes a little higher. This access allows me to remove excess fat, tighten the platysma muscle in order to improve neck definition, and remove excess skin. It can be done in the office under local anesthesia, or in an outpatient surgical center under IV sedation or a light general anesthetic.
If there is looseness of the lower cheek along the jaw border in addition to a poorly defined neck the best choice is a neck and jaw border lift. With this operation I carry the incision in front of the ear higher in a discrete way and make an extension at the bottom edge of the sideburn. This allows for a tightening of the jowl and lower cheek in addition to the neck.
If there is significant settling of the upper cheek in addition to the areas we have just mentioned, a combined cheek, neck, and jaw border lift is usually the best choice. This adds another small incision behind the temporal hairline.
