- VOLUMA® HELPS RESTORE DEEP VOLUME TO THE FACE.
As we age certain regions of the face become gaunt and hollow. Common areas affected by volume loss include the cheek, the temple, and the chin. Voluma® can be used to replace the missing volume in these areas and restore a youthful look.
- VOLUMA® IS A COUSIN TO MANY POPULAR FILLERS THAT HAVE BEEN USED FOR MANY YEARS.
Hyaluronic fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® have been used as facial fillers at a more superficial level in millions of people worldwide. Voluma® has the same simple building block molecule (hyaluronic acid) as these other fillers.
- THE MATERIAL THAT VOLUMA® IS MADE OF IS NATURALLY PRESENT IN MOST OF THE TISSUES OF THE BODY.
Hyaluronic acid is found in many tissues including the skin. If functions as a natural lubricant and shock absorber. It helps to keep our skin moist and supple. One of the reasons that our skin becomes drier and thinner as we age is that there is a reduced amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin after age 30. This loss of HA content becomes more severe with each decade.
- VOLUMA® IS REVERSIBLE.
If for some reason a patient desires removal of Voluma® this can be accomplished with a simple injection of a material known as hyaluronidase. This enzyme is used by the body to break down hyaluronic acid and is part of the constant process of rejuvenation that takes place in our bodies.
- VOLUMA®’S STRUCTURE GIVES IT THE ABILITY TO FILL AND LIFT HOLLOW TISSUES.
The chains of sugar molecules that make up Voluma® are hooked together in a way that makes them firmer that other hyaluronic injectibles currently available in the United States. This allows the material to support areas of the face that have become hollow. Other hyaluronic fillers in this country are not robust enough to do this sort of “heavy lifting.”
- VOLUMA® LASTS LONGER THAT OTHER HA FILLERS AVAILABLE IN THE U.S.
As a general rule Voluma® lasts considerably longer that the other HA fillers that we have available at this time. Many patients find the results last 18 months to 2 years.
- Voluma® is more expensive than other HA fillers on a per syringe basis.
New medical devices and materials tend to be expensive due to development and regulatory costs associated with FDA approval. This makes Voluma® more expensive on a per syringe basis than the materials we have been using up to now. This is at least partially offset by the fact that Voluma® lasts longer. There will be a longer period between injections than you might expect if you have been treated previously with other HA injectible fillers.
- VOLUMA® HAS BEEN USED FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN EUROPE AND CANADA.
This means that there is already substantial experience with this material, always preferable to a material that is not “tried and true.”
- FACIAL REJUVENATION WITH VOLUMA® REQUIRES A CLINICIAN WHO HAS DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF ANATOMY AND ADVANCED INJECTION TECHNIQUE.
Voluma® opens up a new range of possibilities for facial volume restoration. With these opportunities also come potential perils. It is essential, in my opinion, that a clinician working with Voluma® has deep experience with advanced techniques of injection. Patients at the Whole Beauty® Institute have two important advantages. We have used fat transfer for deep volume restoration in the face for over 15 years. Our experience has led to the techniques used by the team at the Whole Beauty® Institute when we inject Voluma® . Also since our practice is based in the field of plastic surgery, we have a detailed understanding of the intricacies of facial anatomy.
- VOLUMA® BY ITSELF WILL NOT MAKE A FACE BEAUTIFUL. THE PERSON WHO PERFORMS THE INJECTION DETERMINES THE ARTISTIC RESULT.
Deep volume restoration is a more sophisticated process than filling creases. This means that the person who carries out the treatment needs to have internalized a sophisticated sense of facial form. To do so requires years of effort and observation. There are no shortcuts in this process.
