High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty is my preferred technique for restoring the tone of the abdomen.  Patients come to me for this procedure because they have experienced a loss of tone of the abdominal skin, usually as a result of pregnancy or significant weight fluctuation.  When I examine these patients the loss of tone is usually much more than skin deep.  In most cases in order to restore an optimum tone to the abdomen, it is necessary to address all layers of the abdomen, the skin, the muscles, and the supporting fascia in between.  It may also be helpful to contour any excess fat that exists in the abdomen and flanks.

I was fortunate to learn the high lateral tension abdominoplasty technique from Dr. Ted Lockwood, who conceptualized the technique.  Dr. Lockwood, who passed away a few years ago, was one of those rare individuals who moved an operation forward in a fundamental way, rather than just making minor improvements.  In my opinion, this technique of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) transformed the operation from a simple tightening of loose skin to a powerful reshaping of the mid body.

Please visit the Abdominoplasty section of my main website, where there is detailed discussion of this operation and the many variants which I perform.  There are also pictures of various patients on whom I have performed the technique in the Photo Gallery portion of the website.

I would like to share with you some of the main advantages of the High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty Technique:

The scar sits low in its central portion, so that it is well hidden by most swim suit fashions.
There is an advanced three layer tightening of the abdominal wall, which leads to a more artistic result.
Liposuction can be combined with the abdominoplasty procedure.
The technique provides a wonderful lift to the upper thigh and pubic area.
The shaping of the body is more powerful than with any other technique I have used.

The procedure takes more time than other techniques, due to the multiple layers of correction.  This is well worth it, from the patient’s perspective since the result is so beautiful.
